Walk Baltimore!

Walk Baltimore is a website for both visitors and locals looking to explore
Charm City by foot. The Inner Harbor, National Aquarium, and Oriole
Park at Camden Yards are well known landmarks, but much of
Baltimore's charm can be found beyond the tourist havens near
Harborplace. Baltimore is a very walkable city, with interesting sites within
hiking distance of the downtown hotels. This site will be a constant work
in progress, beginning with some downtown circuits and eventually
adding some nice hikes from around Baltimore city. I will include some
simple short trips the whole family can enjoy to some vigorous longer
distance treks.

How This Site Works

This site is designed to be simple to use. Each page is a walking tour of
parts of Baltimore  that you can print up and keep in your pocket with a
tourist map. Links for more information on interesting sites along the way
are provided. Distance , terrain, and difficulty are included for each
journey.

A Few Tips Before You Start

  • The Baltimore Visitor's Center on the Inner Harbor near
Harborplace is a great resource. Many of the hikes begin near
here. It is a good place to pick up a tourist map, buy tickets, find
useful information, and get some discounts.
  • The map link on each page will take you to a Yahoo map of the
general area the hike is in.
  • Explore! Feel free to wander down side streets not on the exact
tours. You will find many interesting sites by exploring near these
hikes. It should be easy to backtrack and continue your tour when
    you are done.
  • Wear good walking or hiking shoes. A long distance trek on
pavement can be rough on the feet
  • Check the weather report. Baltimore can be very hot and humid in
the summer and thunderstorms can seem to come from nowhere.
Loose, comfortable clothes and a hat are a great idea on these
hot days, and don't forget the sunscreen. Spring and fall have
excellent trekking weather in the Mid Atlantic area.
  • Both the downtown and waterfront areas have friendly uniformed
guides patrolling the area. They are treasure troves of information
and can also assist you if you are having a problem.
  • Be street smart. All of these hikes are in parts of Baltimore
considered safe, but as in any big city street crime is a reality. For
